yeah i totally understand what you're saying but you cant really blame her for that its all just the new rules. kind of like "dont hate the player hate the game" type thing haha
I can totally blame her for not having cleaned her skills. They aren't new, she's been doing most of those for a while, and she's an elite gymnast. Jordyn made vast improvements on cleaning up her little tidbits- why can't Aly be expected to do the same? Don't get me wrong either- she's scary talented and in most instances an absolute rock (and such a little cutie). But her jumps aren't always 180 and her lines are ick. I've said it 100 times, it's gonna be that sort of thing that will get her in trouble with the Olympic judges. If she doesn't tidy in these 3 weeks (which she should), don't be surprised if she gets hit hard for form deductions.

I too believe that Nastia would have made it over Kyla if she hit. It'll be interesting to see how these girls can handle London. I do have high hopes- plus Kyla could definitely double-Olympic if she remains injury free!

Aly has improved her technique quite a bit in the past year or 2, I'll give her that, and she's a rock, like we all say. She can be counted on to put up at LEAST a high 14, low 15 on beam and floor, and mid 15 on vault, but like kristenthegreat said, she'll be KILLED at the Olympics. They always talk about the "international look" that Kyla has, and straight legs and pointed toes are a large part of that (granted, it's also just genetics as that tends to be a tall lean body)

I think Maroney made it because it would have been very hard for them to justify keeping the World Champion in vault off the olympic team especially since her scores on vault are significantly higher than her closest competitors. That and the fact that she came back so strongly from the concussion and the nasal fracture and still has another 3 weeks to be fully healed.

I see what you're saying, but a simple justification is what I said. She's not reliable enough to put up huge scores anywhere other than vault. She can put up decent floor scores, but they're not consistent by any means. I don't think her nasal fracture impeded her at all at these championships, so I don't think there's a point to saying she has 3 weeks to be fully healed. I just personally believe that if you're going to take a 1 trick pony, it should have been Anna Li. Jordyn, Gabby, and Aly can put up vault scores that will be the top in the world, Kyla Jordyn and Aly will put up the beam scores, Gabby, Jordyn, and Aly will put up the floor scores, and Jordyn, Gabby, and Kyla will be bars. In my opinion, Anna Li would have been a better fit if they're so okay with having a one-trick pony on the team.

ETA: the average score of Gabby, Jordyn, and Aly on vault was 15.8 I'm pretty sure, and considering many teams are still majority competing DTYs, it would be almost impossible for them to meet that average.

Who does everyone think will be used for each event for the team competition?

chyeeaaa69 I hear what you are saying. You definitely know more than me in terms of the individual skills as well as the specialties of each gymnast. Let's hope their decision to use Maroney over Li doesn't come back to bite them in the butt in another event. I still think though Maroney being the world champ in vault and that she did a decent job at the trials on vault was solely what their choice was based on.

For finals I think:

Bars:
Gabby
Jordan
Kyla

Floor:
Gabby
Jordan
Aly

Vault:
Gabby
Jordan
MaKayla

Beam:
Gabby
Jordan
Aly or Kyla

It sucks that for finals only 3 compete and all scores count. I put Gabby and Jordan on all 4 events since they're our best bet for any all around medal. Pretty sure a 4th person will compete on all events for qualifiers..

Oh I agree that's why they took her, and I think it was basically to solidify an event gold, since I think the chances of any American getting gold on another event are slim (though Gabby did put up the highest bars score recorded in the new CoP I believe)

I'll do finals.

Bars:
Jordyn
Kyla

shes won 5 medals and won 4 championships...and now her alternating...that would be insult to injury

Granted, not the same in terms of titles, but Tasha Schwikert was an alternate 4 years after being a medal-winner, why shouldn't they do it? I kind of feel like it's an all-or-nothing glory deal, and they need to get over themselves.

Oh and I'm honestly thinking Nastia and A Sac might have been offered alternate spots and declined. It would not have surprised me.

But I'm PUMP Sarah Finnegan is in there! She's so amazing and this is just the experience she needs. She is going to absolutely kill it in 2016. Look out everyone.

I am a Sarah Finnegan fan too. I would have put her as first alternate. I originally thought Nastia and Alica may have declined an alternate position too, but not according to this article (for Alicia anyway)
Olympic men’s gymnastics team complete with addition of Jonathan Horton, Jake Dalton and Sam Mikulak - The Boston Globe
I personally would have taken Alicia as the 5th spot over Maroney. I get that Maroney has a great vault, but she has been so inconsistent and unfocused. I didn't think she looked good at all last night and was a mess at VISAs. I though Alicia was so solid and focused through VISAs and Trials, and I would have taken her leadership over a gold medal vault opportunity. For her not to have even been an alternate selection gives me the impression that Marta and Bella haven't forgiven her for 2008 and weren't even considering her for this team.

I have to say i was balling my eyes out when they brought the girls out at the end & to see all of them crying and genuinely so happy! And then when they were celebrating with the guys team. What a great moment!! I have always followed gymnastics for the olympics, but i don't remember ever seeing anything like that.
